It was community-based football where they honed their abilities before progressing to the million-dollar green-backed footballing pastures of the world. It is with exactly this intent that the Mumbai Rink Football League (MRFL) has been formed.
The MRFL has a goal of providing a fun and competitive environment for football enthusiasts to showcase their skills. The league is established by a group of passionate football players, who recognised the need for a more organised and structured approach to 5-a-side football.
We believe that football is a sport that brings people together and builds communities. That’s the reason our league focuses not only on providing a competitive outlet for players, but also on fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among all participants.
MRFL is designed to bring together people and diverse communities across the city of Mumbai through football. The league is founded on the principles of inclusivity, competitiveness, and community-bonding.
Our franchise league operates on a model where each franchise owner is responsible for managing their own team, while adhering to the league’s rules and regulations. This model allows for a greater level of autonomy and flexibility for franchise owners, while still maintaining the overall integrity and consistency of the league.
MRFL will be focused on local communities and designed to engage and involve people in those communities/regions. Each franchise will be owned and based on neighbourhoods within the city of Mumbai, and encouraging participation from people of all ages. MRFL will be inclusive and diverse, welcoming people of all backgrounds.
MRFL will have multiple leagues to ensure representation of different audiences. MRFL will kick off with an open tournament for Men and Women followed by a league for Veterans and Under-18s. This will allow the entire demographic of Mumbai to be involved in the sport. The sheer fabric of the league and its sub-division based on regions will ensure participation of the rich demographic dividend of the city and will celebrate local rivalries through franchises and players.
MRFL intends to be a powerful tool for bringing people together and promote the sport of football across the length and breadth Mumbai. By creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, and engaging with local businesses and the wider community, the league will aim to build a strong and dedicated fan base that supports the growth and development of the unique initiative over time.
MRFL will be governed and advised by celebrated players, who have represented the national and state teams: Former India forward Steven Dias, former India vice-captain Godfrey Pereira and Air-India coach Vijith Shetty.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1679902006952{margin-bottom: 23px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;}”]The team behind MRFL:

Buying a franchise can be a great investment and can reciprocate into several benefits:
- Limited franchises: In the first season, only 24 franchises will be available for purchase and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Owning a franchise will give you access to Mumbai football’s inner circle and will subsequently offer an earning opportunity.
- Passion for Sports: If you have a passion for sports, owning a franchise in a sports league can be a great way to combine your love of sports with your business interests. You can be an integral part of a community of sports fans and enthusiasts, which can make owning a franchise more enjoyable and fulfilling.
- Earning Potential: MRFL will provide franchise owners the chance to earn monetary benefits from the franchise business through local/regional/national/international sponsorships, prize money, player sales, franchise sale, broadcast revenue, match-day ticketing, etc. MRFL, as part of its expansion plans will eventually provide franchise owners the opportunity to spread their businesses to new markets. This can help you grow your franchise and increase your revenue over time.
- Established Fan Base: MRFL will look to create a dedicated and passionate fan base, which can make it easier to attract more eye-balls and customers to your franchise. You can benefit from the league’s established marketing and promotional efforts, which will help you reach a broader and continuously growing audience.
- Proven Business Model: One of the primary advantages of buying a franchise is that you are purchasing a business model that has already been tested and proven to be successful across the world in not just football, but also across sports like cricket, kabaddi, volleyball, hockey, etc.
- Brand Recognition: A well-known franchise brand establishment can give you instant advantage and recall/recognition value across the city’s demographic, be it through your team, players or more importantly the franchise owner. MRFL intends to capture audiences from not just across the city of Mumbai, but also from its neighbouring regions like Navi Mumbai and Thane districts.
All franchises (teams) will be auctioned/sold across a pre-determined period/event. For enquiries, please email us at connect.mrfl@gmail.com
- Each franchise will be permitted to register a maximum of 12 players in the squad

- Professional Environment: MRFL will provide a professional environment where players can develop their skills and compete against top-level competition.
- Financial Rewards: MRFL will give players the opportunity to earn significant financial rewards, including salaries, bonuses, and performance incentives. This can provide a stable income stream for players and help them to support themselves and their families.
- Exposure and Recognition: MRFL will also help players to gain exposure and recognition, both within their local community and on a national level. This can help players to build their personal brand and attract additional opportunities.
- MRFL will not have any player auctions and players do not need to pay any money to play the league, players will be contracted to individual franchise / teams for a specific duration, and will be compensated financially as per their agreement with the franchise owner. All players will have to adhere to guidelines provided by MRFL
- Player protection and rights will be guaranteed through a tri-party agreement between the player, franchise and the league representatives.
- This will allow players to negotiate their own contracts and fees with individual franchises.
- Players are allowed to represent only one franchise at a time and will be allowed to play only one sub-league
- For the duration of the contract, no player will be allowed to play any other league, sport and represent another franchise. Violation of this clause will inevitably disqualify them from competing in MRFL
- 5-a-side football is a technically demanding game that requires a high level of skill and precision. The league will give players an opportunity to showcase their talent. Players will have the opportunity to test themselves against other skilled players and develop your tactical understanding of the game.
